Annual plans are billed once and forgotten. Divide those by 12 and list them too, or the audit misses the charges most likely to renew unnoticed.

Small charges, large annual totals

A subscription is designed to be decided once and paid forever. Seeing the yearly total beside each one is usually enough to show which ones are still earning their place.

How the calculation works

Yearly cost = monthly cost × 12

The sample list totals $162.95 a month, or $1,955 a year. Cancelling the second streaming service, the gym and the meal kit saves $128.99 a month, which is $1,548 a year.

How to find them all

Read the last three months of card and bank statements, not your memory. Annual plans need dividing by 12. The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule was vacated by a federal court in 2025, so cancellation steps are still set by each company and state law; screenshot the confirmation.

The point is not to cancel everything. A subscription you use every week at a price you would pay again is a good purchase.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find subscriptions I forgot about?
Search three months of card and bank statements for repeating amounts, and check the subscriptions page in your phone’s app store account.
Is an annual plan cheaper?
Usually per month, but it is easier to forget at renewal. Put the renewal date in your calendar a week ahead.
What if a company makes cancelling hard?
Keep records of the request and confirmation. If you are charged after cancelling, dispute the charge with your card issuer and report the company to the FTC.
